Early morning meetings are not in line with the lifestyle of a true corporate bohemian.
There is a typical bohemian lifestyle daily routine which includes going to bed very late at night due to social activities. You can’t go to see an art performance at 7:30pm, have a few drinks with friends after the show, go home at midnight, catch-up on reading before falling asleep… and then get up at 6:30 in the morning! The human body needs about 8 hours of sleep. The bohemian human body needs about 10 hours. We actually give it 6. Every weekday, we go to bed at 1-2am, get up at 7-8. In the morning, every snooze is bliss, and every extra minute of sleep is power!
Logically, mornings are no fun! But if an ‘early bird’ colleague books an 8:00am meeting in your diary, things get pretty ugly! It is a sheer painful struggle to make it on time! These ‘early bird’ species are dangerous and generally must be avoided. Expect the danger and fix the problem before it has even occurred – take charge of your Calendar. Send meeting invites first, and let the ‘early birds’ struggle with a 5pm call!
Also, to prevent the danger of being trapped in 9 am meetings, make sure you block each morning in your calendar with a busy 8:30-9:30 slot for Coffee& Hibernation – both with capital letters because these are building blocks of productive working in the later hours of the day. Of course, you may not be in the office until 9:15 anyway, so it’s better to have the time booked as ‘busy’. After all, you are usually busy commuting during that time.
There are many more ideas to add to the list. Every corporate bohemian has developed their own creative tactics. The bottom line is: don’t let anyone harass your private morning space! You are free to set the rules and shape your corporate environment!
